S'more friend - Lightbox Expo Holly Jolly Paintathon 2024: 24 Hours Art Challenge: First Place
We spent the first six hours generating story ideas and creating concept drawings. Due to our different strengths, we ended up with a wide variety of images that we could use to create the thumbnails.
We knew we wanted to illustrate a warm-hearted interaction between a little girl and a giant creature but were undecided on the setting or the type of creature. We explored different options, and it was interesting to observe that other teams chose ideas
Despite facing a tight 24-hour deadline with approximately 50 teams participating, we enjoyed the entire process. It was incredibly satisfying to see our ideas materialize and to delve into small side stories that enriched the final artwork.
Ultimately, we chose a snowman because we found the notion amusing and ironic - as a snow creature, he wouldn't have the opportunity to enjoy hot chocolate. This choice highlighted the innocence of both characters.
Making the theme "Warm and Cozy" unmistakable from the start was our key goal.
Now it was time to create the layout. We decided to use Magma, enabling us to draw a picture together in real-time via the Internet in the browser. We spent about 4 hours on it.
We explored various color variations and moods based on a color rough on the next slide.
Working with a one-point perspective not only enhanced the peaceful mood but also proved to be exceptionally practical for us. Given the multitude of different assets, assembling them in this perspective was quite simple.
Upon completing the color sketch, we divided it into segments for individual rendering by each artist. Subsequently, we reassembled the components. We wrapped up the rendering an hour before the deadline, allowing enough time for uploading the work and ad
